I am buying the parts to replace the lcd digitizer screen but I'm not sure what happens with the home button when I remove the screen. In all the repair guide videos, I've noticed the home button is part of the old screen. The screen I bought doesn't have the home button included, so do I have to use the old Home button? How do I glue it back on?

Having the same problem-have replaced the LCD/digitiser. It works perfectly but I can't get the home button to work. I took it from my last screen and it fits in perfectly to the new one. The connections all appear to be in line underneath, and there is a suitable click when I press it but nothing happens...

I know this question is a few years old, but here's hoping that someone out there has figured it out by now!
I just did an LCD/digitizer replacement on an iPod Touch 4G and for the first time, when I was done the repair and went to check the home button (no adhesive applied yet), it didn't work at all.
When I press the button there is a click, but it's not as pronounced as it was before. I thought that the cheap Chinese part I was using was too thick (which is often the case with other digitizers), but it sits perfectly flush with the iPod like the original did.
I then checked the part where the button presses against, and noticed that the little black piece that's in all the pictures was exactly centered and hadn't moved, so I knew this was going to be a tricky problem to solve.
Out of desperation, I used the end of my plastic opening tool to press the button from the inside. It made a noticeable click and the LCD came to life. I thought if I added a tiny flat piece of plastic under the home button that it would give it that extra little bit of travel needed to press against the circuitry, but no such luck. The button actually moved less.
I am truly stumped. I know both parts are fine separately, but I just can't figure out a way to get them working together.
Any ideas?

I replaced the screen yesterday and glued the old home button with the double sided adhesive. The home button works just fine though. Sorry to hear about your home button. You should probably double check if there is something blocking underneath the steel plate near the home button connector. Let me know if you fix it.
