1 Boots with battery disconnected on second Power button press but...
not from battery when connected.
At boot without battery, MagSafe shows green for two seconds and then orange constant.
When booted from power adapter without battery, works normally with no fans ramping up. Fully usable but cannot be disconnected from power brick.
Keyboard has three buttons (I, k. <) non-functional due to liquid spill and waiting for new keyboard to arrive so keyboard cable now disconnected BUT power button still works to boot on second press.
All external keyboard functions normal and can restart normally from external.
Battery not recognised and not charging when installed.
Checked some voltages on board and get normal 8.5 V and 3.3 V from ground to relevant caps and rails.
It seems like it might be a SMC issue but cannot reset from external so waiting until internal arrives and fitted.
Oddly, when closed with no battery connected, autoboots about 5 seconds after attaching power adaptor BUT no desktop on opening screen. MagSafe remains orange in this scenario
Suggestions welcomed.

What does Coconutbattery tell you? Post a snapshot of the main window Adding images to an existing question. Start your system and then plug in your battery. If you can try to take a second snapshot after putting the MagSafe before the battery dies.
If the battery is not seen you'll need to connect a test battery to make sure the battery is not shorted out.
