PS2 laser comes forward and then goes back
When I put a disc in the PS2 it reads and then bounces straight back immediately. I brought a new one off eBay so I don't know why this is not working.

consider trying with another media, e.g. CD Audio disk or DVD Movie, etc.
some possibility that is causing this behaviour, the lens cannot read well.
You can try using the cd / dvd disk lens cleaner kit, e.g.
https://www.philips.com.sg/c-p/SVC2330_1... and hopefully after some cleaning it will work.
else, you have to either dispute with the seller or try replacing the Lens mechanism.
