iPhone x does turn on but screen is totally black

Hi,

I have an iphone x that previously worked like a charm. I replaced the screen to an oem oled screen 3 months ago. Yesterday the screen would go black if I lightly pressed the upper right corner. Today the screen is completely black and does not respond to touch. The phone turns on and everything works, except the screen. I even restarted the phone and restored it via itunes but that didn’t fix the problem.

Worth mentioning that I changed the housing a few days ago after which the phone worked like a charm until it suddenly didn’t.

What could be the issue here?

I tried to disconnect and reconnect all the flax cables on the screen but the screen is still completely dead. I also checked all the pins on the screen’s flex cables and the corresponding pins on the motherboard and all looked okay in my eyes. I find it a bit hard to believe that an oem screen would be so fragile that it all of a sudden could die like that..

What should I do next?

OLED screens are quite fragile, more so than LCD screens.

My initial though was that you had a bad replacement screen…but then you final comment about replacing the housing has raised my doubts.

The easiest thing to try is to install another replacement screen, however they are not cheap so you’ll either have to front the money or go to a shop and see if a local tech would be willing to try a replacement screen for you. If a new screen doesn’t solve the issue though, you will have to teardown your phone and inspect the logic board, connectors and flexes to see if there is any damage that may have occurred during your housing replacement. Sometimes flex get very minor damage (use magnification) that allows them to work at first but eventually give way.

To clarify: I replaced the screen in November. Worked well since then, 3 days ago I replaced the cracked housing. Afterwards there was a small gap between the bezel and screen which was why I tried to open it up today and to get rid of the gap. So the screen stopped working today when I was mounting it back on the phone..

Might be a dead screen or the connection isn’t secure on the logic board.

Check the connections for the display as it may not be fully connected, if it is then the part may have failed.
