Ipad shuts off at 100%

Hello! So, my iPad has been doing this thing when I charge it at 60% overnight and by the morning its “dead” even though it’s at 100%. It will power up for about a minute, if plugged in, and show 100%. But, if I unplug it within that one minute it will immediately shut off and “die”.I connected it to coconut battery a couple days ago and it showed what’s in the image.

I also used a battery app that I downloaded from the App Store and it said the design capacity was at 30% but coconut says 80%. I don’t get that. But, is it time that I replace the battery or could it be something else?

iPad Pro Shuts down when charged to 100%

SOLUTION FOR ME- once i pad is charged 100% a- enter your passcode- FIRST thing, put it onto AIRPLANE MODE, put BLUTOOTH OFF and even put off WiFi if possible and use ipad for 2-3 minutes.

Then only start using ipad with Blu-tooth, cellular or WiFi functions.

(IMO might be, as soo. As the system starts, it tries to hit blutooth or cellular functions and it might be impacting the battery function)

I know this is over a year old, but try calling Apple and diagnose it to see if your battery is at 80% health according to them. If it is, they’ll replace your entire iPad with a brand new one for $99 plus tax out of warranty. I highly recommend if you still enjoy your current iPad model and want to keep using it without a problem.

The battery is certainly at the end of it’s useful life. 80% is more or less the cutoff point between a normal battery and a degraded battery. On iPhones, they continue to work well down to about 70% and anything below that can go either way; working but just for less time or in some cases, start doing that “shutdown” on full charge thing.

My son died I got his ipad that I bought him, its 6yrs old battery keeps showing 100% then it dies solution please as this is sentimental not a clue how to fix it. Help appreciated. Anna

I don’t know how to fix this issue. I was searching the forums for my own issue with my iPads battery power. I don’t know a whole lot if I’m being honest. I do know that we both happened to be visiting this post near the same time. I lost my dad when I was 10. Not the same, but similar. No child should lose a parent; no parent should lose a child. The pain you are going through and the questions you are asking yourself are surely unbearable. Feeling okay again is going to be hard, just as anything worth going through in life is. I know that as long as you keep a home for your son in your heart, he will never be too far. He will be sure to bring joy to your life in simple reminders. You may be sad at first, but peace will come if you allow the waves to crash over your shoulders and carry you back to the safety of the sand. I hope your answers for your iPad get answered. I hope that each day is a little easier. I’m sending you the biggest hug, Anna. It will never be the same, but you will be okay <3

Thank you! This happened to me with the 13.3 update just now

Wow, this actually worked on my old iPad Air. Thank you so much!

Follow these steps. Most likely, it'll work for you if you encounter this kind of problem with your iPad.

Made an account just to thank you for this solution, worked for me as well.

Ok! I just did this and it worked! Thank you so much! Who are you, how did you know to do this and why can’t Apple recommend this for all of us having the issue!?

The battery may no longer be secured to the logic board, before replacing the battery try to open the device and fasten the power connector first. If its loose light movement, or just sitting over time could cause it to power off. BTW coconut battery is usually correct, apps on iPad usually get it wrong.

Might be shorting cases,First insure that only insert charger iPad on but after removing cable goes suddenly off.

There is three possibilities in that cases.

1-Battery might be extremily discharged.

2-Some short circuit makes battery drain.

3-Battery inner circuit might be damage. So,need to be replaced.

Apple designed this to be this way. It’s called forced obsolescence. They need to be challenged by those with the time and money. People need to get this info out to others. The average person thinks the battery is actually dead and to just replace the whole unit. Apple Genius will tell you the cost of the battery is more than the unit and you should just get a new one. I say F u Ck Y oU Apple. My iPad worked great until the last update before iOS 14. This is a software issue (I know the battery is not at new capacity) and it should still work even if you only have access to 8000mAh VS the Original 10,000mAh.

I agree. My iPad did this for a year. I had to keep it plugged in to work. Then one morning I woke up and there had been a new update. Suddenly it fixed this issue and I was able to use my iPad without the charger once again. I wish I had taken note of the update specs. Recently i had to have it restored at Best Buy due to passcode retrieval failure and it is now doing it again. It only works when plugged in. Please apple send the update/bug fix. It worked great for a year after the update until the tech plugged it in with his cord and not mine.

Started doing this again after having it restored and the 14.4 update, just like a lot of people. It’s not a battery issue, it’s on apples end!

I was experiencing the exact same issue and tried the solution above which appears to have worked, at least for now.

There are some additional data points related to model / OS version etc. and my history related to this issue which may be worth mentioning;

  • Model Name: iPad mini 4
  • Capacity: 128 GB
  • Model Number: MK9N2LL/A
  • iOS version: 14.3 (18C66)

The crashes began after updating to version 14 of the OS earlier in 2020, although I can’t say how long after, (it may have been after a sub-version release). Initially the crashing was intermittent which led me to believe that it was application related but eventually it became clear that it was the OS. The symptoms didn’t include the battery issue above initially. When the battery issue began I ran a backup and restore, which didn’t solve anything. I then did a factory reset and restore which appeared to work for a couple of months. I began having the problem again a few days ago (it’s now Jan 12, 2021) which brought me to this page.

2 thoughts - 1) Why does this solution work? I mean, if it solves the problem that’s great but I’d still like to know wtf is going on in my device so I can possibly prevent a recurrence or at least protect myself from data loss or security related concerns. 2) I agree with Jake’s comment above. This is clearly a software or firmware issue, and as such, Apple needs to address it.

Just one more thing...my iPad runs all day with constant use without recharging, so I am discounting the battery end-of-life argument as either wrong or functionally irrelevant. I am still using my (now ancient) iPhone 6 with the original battery and it works fine.

tarafından

I agree. As I mentioned above, one of apples updates to my iPad when plugged in to a wall charger overnight fixed this issue I was having for a year. I couldn’t believe it. I also can’t believe that so many people have the problem and apple won’t fix it. It is not a battery issue!
