iFixit iPhone XS Max Aftermarket Blank Rear Glass Panel w/Lens Cover

Has anyone purchased this? I would like to know the quality of the glass, is it very close to or equal to the original? I would also like to know if the phone will be water proof again after replacement, I’m assuming that the iPhone XS Max is not water proof with a cracked back.

Glass itself is water proof no matter where u buy it from lol I doubt however u would be able to fully adhere it to the phone and have it sealed in a manner that would make it water resistant.

I have not purchased or used the back glass for the X series so hopefully someone else will chime in.

As for waterproofness…the iPhone XS is water resistant, not water proof. See this support page by Apple for more details.

iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 2 meters up to 30 minutes). iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus have a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 1 meter up to 30 minutes). Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Liquid damage is not covered under warranty.

Now, IMHO, these specs are only attainable when the phone is assembled in factory conditions (dust-free environment, repeatable processes etc.). Any repair outside of those conditions will not achieve the same level of water resistance. It may, but statistically speaking, any device you or any other third party shop does will not meet those specifications.

I had my rear glass crack and attempted to fix myself. I say attempted because I watched a few YouTube videos before I found Ifixit.com.

In short, I bought a rear glass from eBay for $9, and it was very nice. Had the apple, and iPhone decals just like the factory, it is very nice. After watching the videos by 3 different channels I thought I had a good idea of what I needed to do. Sadly for me I followed a guy who instructed to use a heat gun and some appropriate tools to remove the broken glass from the rear of the iPhone (XS Max). When I reach the camera lens the video shows to pry the dual camera lens off while heating it. After doing so unknowingly I ripped the led flash off with the lens. I didn’t realize this until I glued the new glass on, and then glued the lens back into place over the cameras. After I got everything back into place I was happy that it was such an easy job, but when I tested everything out I found that the flash wasn’t working on my rear cameras. I was !#^&@@ to say the least, and after a lot more in-depth searching I came across ifixit.com and realized I had to replace the whole chassis. Just wanted to give you a heads up because those YouTube channels have comments disabled ( go figure ).

Of course now I’m going to replace the chassis and get my flash back. Good Luck with your repair
