Where is the GSM Hardware on iPhone 6 plus?

I have to replace a Verizon logic board with this logic board that is locked to AT&T carrier.

My question is where is the CDMA or GSM Hardware on iPhone 6 plus?

I’m asking this because I use a Verizon Sim card. I know Verizon use GSM. If the GSM “Hardware is on the motherboard” then I don’t have a GSM reception when I unlock my AT&T Iphone.

If the “CDMA“ or “GSM” hardware is on the Logic Board, then I should not unlock this AT&T phone. However, if the network is somewhere not on the Logic board, then I still have good GSM connection because I didn’t touch the GSM part.

All of the iPhones use a logic board which holds all of the circuity there is no 2nd board which holds the CDMA or GSM circuity.

An iPhone which is carrier locked likely still has a payment contract on it (or never had it unlocked after the final payment). I would contact the carrier to see if you can get the phone unlocked. At least then you can sell it.

As for CDMA or GSM compatibility. The radios are fixed to the given phone needed by that given carriers cellular system. I would recommend you locate your phones supported bands looking it up here Every iPhone. Then you can figure out what carrier you can use your iPhone as is.

If you still have questions give us your exact model.

Verizon uses CDMA/LTE, AT&T uses GSM/UMTS/LTE. Also all iPhone 6 has the same RF subsystem with perhaps very little change on front end amp modules.

But you CANNOT change its network preferences. The policy is set by Apple activation servers and to replace it, you have to replace a significant part of chips on the logic board, which does not make economical sense.

Apple effectively has total control over the activation of the phone, any attempt to override it costs more than the phone itself. There could be some SIM unlocking techniques, but it does not apply to CDMA because the phone has to be programmed by Apple and Verizon to be added onto CDMA networks.
