What should I see the first time I take the iPhone out of the box?

The first time you take an iPhone out of the box, it turns itself on.
How is this implemented? With a light sensor?

Uh, I don’t think they are supposed to do that. It sounds like someone had already turned on the phone before.

This is how the latest models of iPhones work. They just turn themselves on the first time.
I take it that @benjamen50 has not purchased a new iPhone XR yet :>).
Full disclosure...I wasn't aware either...that's really neat!

The iphone XR has a light sensor so it turns on when the box is open.

The phone should not be turn on until you press the power button

Even the iPad Mini 4 has the light sensor that turns the unit on/off when you uncover/cover the screen!
