Samsung TV model: LN55B650t1f Won't Turn On

My Samsung TV model: LN55B650t1f won’t turn on. The standby light is on but nothing happens when I push the power button on the TV or the remote. I checked the remote batteries and I checked that the outlet the TV is plugged into are giving power. Any suggestions on why my TV won’t turn on?

After searching online, I’m thinking I need to replace the power supply motherboard, part BN44-00268A, but I’m not 100% sure. I’m hesitant to purchase a replacement motherboard when I’m not sure that that will fix the issue. I can upload pictures of my TV’s motherboards later, I’m just not at home right now. Is there any definitive way to know that the power supply motherboard is the issue?

Hi @emkf ,

Did you try a Power refresh, you didn't say?

Turn off the power to the TV and disconnect the TV power cord from the power outlet.

Press and hold the TV power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the TV and then release the button.

Reconnect the TV power cord to the outlet and switch on the TV and check what happens.

To know whether the power board is the problem, you will need to measure the various voltage supplies produced by the power board to the rest of the TV to see if they are present and of the correct value.

I would first check the board for any fuses

& make sure they are not blown out

tarafından

@jayeff I did try a power reset I found in an internet search where I unplugged the TV and held the power button for 10 seconds. But I didn't try holding the power button for 30 seconds. I'll try that when I get home this evening.

tarafından

@Robert Johnson I'll also check the fuses after trying the power reset from @jayeff .

I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds with the TV unplugged but I'm still getting no response with the power button after plugging back in the TV.

I've attached pictures of the two motherboards that aren't covered by plastic safety covers. I also took a close up picture of a capacitor that I believe might be the culprit because it's bulging a bit more at the top than the others. The others are perfectly flat on the top, as seen in the picture.

disconnect the power board from the main board and give it a try. Your backlight should show. That combined with your standby LED on, it is possible that this is a main board issue. Remember that it is the main board that tells the TV to turn on. Measure the voltages on connector CN801 and compare those to the values silkscreened on the board. Let us know what you find.

not saying that it is not the power board but I hate to just replace boards for the sake of doing something :-)

Hi @oldturkey03! I will try your suggestion when I get home today and let you know what I find. My images are attached now, if you want to take a look at them. I was trying to attach the images from my phone and didn't realize that just uploading the images didn't actually attach them. There was one extra step that I had to do in order for them to show up. :)

For clarification, are you saying that disconnecting the power board from the main board should allow my TV to turn on when I push the power button? I'm new to all of this and still learning. Thanks!

tarafından

@oldturkey03 I disconnected the main board from the power board and plugged in the TV, the backlight came on but the standby light didn't. Unfortunately, my multimeter isn't working. I need to get new batteries for it, which, of course, I'm out of that size. So, I need to head to the store... Long story short, I haven't been able to measure the voltages on CN801 yet.

tarafından

@oldturkey03 I got the new batteries and I'm not getting the correct voltage according to the values silk-screened on the board. On a 5V marked one, I'm reading 10.3V and on a 13V marked one, I'm reading 26.3V.

tarafından

@emkf yes the standby light will not turn on because that comes from the main board. Right now your voltages are a bit odd. Those are DC voltages I presume. From what your pictures show that capacitor is no good. You may have to recap your power board.

tarafından

@oldturkey03 I replaced that capacitor and retested the volts, they were all looking good. So, I put everything back together and my TV is working now! Thanks for your help!

There can be multiple issues with your TV, but here are the most common ones:

The TV’s LCD backlight is dead or isn’t connected. This can be fixed by replacing the LCD/Backlight

The motherboard is damaged or dead. There’s not much you can do about this, all you can do is repair or replace the board. its just easier to replace the circut board.

An important piece of system hardware is fried. This can be fixed by replacing the dead/faulty part.

If your TV is still under warranty, try taking it back to the store along with proof of purchase and telling them whats wrong

Hope this helps!!!
