repair usb ports on late 2009 iMac?

My usb ports recently failed. I get an error saying that they are drawing too much power and have been disabled. Nothing is plugged in to the ports. I did recently start using a belkin self powered hub. I think it is the culprit that did the damage. I tried doing an SMC reset to no avail. My iMac is out of warranty. I had a "apple approved" tech diagnose it. He said it needs a new logic board. That is over 1,000$ out of pocket! I just want to have my usb's work. Is it possible to replace just the parts on the logic board that are fried or do I really need to get a whole new logic board?

Call Apple at 1-800-APL-ECARE

Ask them for the flat rate fee for repairing your board and see if they give you a decent price. I did this on a MacBook today with a bad logic board and my total cost with tax and shipping was $324.70. To complete the transaction I had to have a credit card to put the fee on.

I tried. They would not sell me the logic board because I am not a certified apple repair tech.

Jason, I said nothing about Apple sending you the board. Did they give you a flat rate fee for fixing it?

No they would not give me a flat rate for fixing it. They said that I would have to go through an apple certified technician since there is no apple store near me.

A Apple Certified Technician or an Authorize Service Provider?
