Replaced broken display, now I have kernel task

So my wife’s 2015 MacBook Air fell of the couch and cracked the display.

It was still usable, just had an annoying crack running down the side. I finally replaced the display and upon startup the fan goes to high speed and I get kernel task when i put the CPU under any type of load.

All that I changed was the display, not sure what to do.

Can you give us a bit more here on what MacBook Air you have. Apple made quite a few versions! Is it a 11" or a 13" what year? Or to get more accurate ID plug your systems S/N here EveryMac - Lookup to find your systems S/N look at 'About This Mac'

It's an early 2015-13" macbook air.

I'm at work so i dont have the s/n info right now.

I tried disconnecting the cam cable and the display cable individually, unfortunately neither fix worked, the fans kept running at high speed.

I have had a kernel task on my own macbook before that throttled continously, but in this instance it only throttles when the cpu is taxed with a task like streaming video etc.

I looked in the iopluginfamily.ext for the modelidentifier to move it, but it does not exist. I deleted the entire extension with no luck. I'm stuck right now

OK, lets give this a try restart your system and press the D key to ender into the onboard diagnostics. Run it and let us know what the error message you got.

It say there may be an issue with...

SMC-code-PFM006

camera-code-NDC001

power mgmt system-code-PPN001

thanks for the help

Sounds like you got the wrong display assembly. Where did you get it and what was the part number (Apples)?

The display has a thermal sensor in the camera (NDC001) and that communicates to SMC (PFM006) so these two errors point to the display. The PPN001 error condition is when SMC pushes the systems CPU into Safe Mode slowing the CPU's clocking and ramps the fan up because of the other errors.

Try unplugging the camera cable as this can cause problems relating to temperature sensors that are connected to the SMC (System Management Chip) which can cause the high speed and throttling problem.

Check step 17 of this guide:

MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Display Assembly Replacement

You don’t need to remove all the boards but simply have that cable unplugged temporarily to see if that fixes the problem. If it does I’m sorry to say but the screen assembly may be faulty if this is the case (bad webcam).
