Only charging intermittently - have tried everything - please help

So I my macbook charging port burned up after years of use. I bought a new port, connected it, then bought a new charger (used, but in 100% condition, and is official apple charger). It was working fine for a few hours, charging great, then suddenly stopped charging when I reconnected it. I thought the spare part might be cheap/busted, so bought a new one, having the same issue.

It charges only sometimes when I connect it (lights up green, then orange). Mac charges perfectly, its just when I disconnect then reconnect it stops.

What could be causing this issue? Logic board? Its very frustrating because as far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with it.

Have tried all the various PRAM and SMC resets, to no avail. Also checked battery health which is fine I believe.

Please help me.

Given the fact that you had to replace the Dc in board, I take you had a spike and that probably damaged your charging circuit too. Assuming you have a good battery, there’s unfortunately nothing else in play beside the logic board. It’s not going to be an easy repair either..unless there’s some visible damage giving some hints, an intermittent issue forces a Tech to replace all main components at once.

Thanks for this. May I ask how would a spike have occurred? Is there any process of elimination steps I can take to determine that it is the charging circuit that is damaged/anything I should be looking out for in particular?

I also assume the battery is fine, because when I remove it, the mac does not work via power adapter alone.

@conradaman Usually a spike happens if a charger doesn't properly protect the board because it pushes overvoltage/overcurrent through without synchronizing with board. It may happen because charger is a cheap aftermarket but original ones can fail too, although not very common. Charging and main circuit creation on the board are taken care by the same IC. If it doesn't start with battery unplugged and you had to replace the DC in board because it was burnt, it's almost sure it's a board issue that in the best of cases is related to main power line/charging circuit but it may have gone even further. Charging ports hardly go bad..if it was burnt it was either because of liquid damage or a spike. Deduction at distance without probing is always a bit of a guess, but in this case I see very little alternatives with info you supplied.
