Can I swap my mid-2013 11" Air display into a mid-2012 Air?

Hi all,

A friend of mine damaged the display in his mid-2012 11” MacBook Air. It just so happens I have a mid-2013 11” Air for parts and have lots of experience repairing this generation of Mac having worked at a blue fruit stand for several years. I can confirm that although the years are different, both models are listed as “A1465”.

Can anyone confirm whether the display connector and AirPort antenna cables all match up internally? Would I have any problems doing a direct swap? From what I can tell, the display is one part that is identical. I know the Logic board was a different design, however.

I'm a bit unsure these guys compatibility list is reliable, I can't remember any difference between the assemblies. I don't have around any screen to double check myself but I believe it would be worth further investigation. @arbaman - No, the full assembly is not compatible! The LCD screen its self is the same, the iSight cable length is the issue here and you do need to connect it for SMC. See for your self.

@danj Weird, looks just like the A1370. Thanks, will try to remember it for the future.

@danj @arbaman I can confirm the camera cable is the issue, although it was not the length that was the problem for me. Although the 2013 iSight cable had sufficient length to install in the 2012 top case, the connector on the 2012 has far fewer pins than the 2013. Too bad, everything else was identical.

@mattkraus1 If connect only the display data cable and wifi cable, and left camera cable not connected, would the machine boot and work the rest of the functions?
