Samsung UN50NU6900FXZA TV: No Standby light, powers up manually

My Samsung UN50NU6900FXZA TV has no standby light and will not respond to the remote. The remote has new batteries. The TV will power up manually using the power button on the bottom. It does not detect any input signals (OTA and HDMI) but is linking to my WiFi. I’ve tried the reset options (unplug, hold power button) to no avail.

Hi @louw ,

When the TV powers on do you get a display e.g. logo and can you access the menu screens OK?

Have you tested the remote with a digital camera to check if it is working?

Point the end of the remote that you normally point to the TV, towards the lens of a digital camera (or mobile phone camera).

When viewing the remote through the LCD screen of the camera (or phone) press any button on the remote and check if you can see a light flashing at the end of the remote. If you can this is the IR signal that is sent to the TV.

No TV power light is a worry as LEDs seldom fail.

There may be a problem with the power board or the mainboard.

The power LED indicates that the TV is ready to be turned on. If there are problems after that, then that is different.

If the TV is no longer covered by the manufacturer's warranty , you'll have to remove the back cover from the TV and start taking some voltage measurements on the power board. With the TV just powered there should be a standby voltage supplied from the power board to the mainboard.

This voltage tells the mainboard to turn on the power LED, which maybe it is trying to do but if for example the power supply to the LED from the power supply is missing then it won't turn on. This “missing” voltage may also supply other sections on the mainboard etc This is just guesswork on my part though

Yes, the logo appears and for a brief moment the last channel viewed is displayed, along with the smart TV options and it updates the list of programming (e.g. shows, movies) at the bottom of the screen. After that it displays a “No Signal” message and indicates to check source cables, etc. A basic menu can be accessed by long pressing the power button which displays Power, Channel Up, Channel Down, Volume Up, Volume Down, and Source options.

The camera test functions normally.

I’ll check with Samsung to see if it’s still covered before I break out the multimeter.
