Ink cartridge carriage will not move

After replacing an ink cartridge, the carriage moved to the right and did not return. I checked "troubleshooting" and followed the steps indicated, but the condition of the carriage did not change.

My MG2540 carriage also got stuck. I moved it to the middle, changed the cartridge and voila, everything works. Thanks

I have the same issue with my pixma mg3220. While checking why this is so I tried to remove the color cartridge and while doing so a plastic lever like with spring falls off. I don't know where it came from so I don't know where to re install it. I wish somebody could help me on this.

It sounds like the cartridge is binding the carriage. Unplug the unit and physically move the carriage to the center. Check that you have the proper cartridge and that it firmly installed. Plug in the unit and turn it on. Please let us know what happens.

I don’t know if any of you fixed your problem. But I myself had a TS8160 Canon printer where the cartridge carrier was stuck to the right position.

What I did that worked…

1st: Unplugged the printer completely.

2nd: Look at the white circular gear on the left hand-side and rotating it clockwise until I heard it click once… (checked the carriage - still wasn’t budging)… then kept rotating the gear more until I heard it click again… and then wah-lah… the “cartridge carrier” was released when I moved it to the left!

Next step is I have to clean the cartridge head. But with that… I think I have to go find a video tutorial. lol. Hope this helps someone!

Unless a left-handed person made my printer, there is no white wheel to the left because the two cartridges in the carriage are to the far left. It will allow itself to be manually pulled to the right but not enough to even pull the 2nd cartridge out. There were 2 white wheels to the right but when they are manually turned, they just turn slowly and tightly; no clicking sounds or anything. I turned the wheel until my finger was sore. No positive results.

Thank You, Eszlee!!! Canon iP4820. I had just replaced all but the black ink cartridges when the carriage jammed. After several attempts following your suggestion, the problem was solved!! Terrific!! I should note that, on my specific printer, there appears to be several white circular gears. The one to turn is the one closest to the front of the printer cabinet.

I went to do this fix after 10 months of not using our printer here and Voila! I found a hair rubber band that had gotten lodged under the roller pins. YAY! now it works!

HP 3070A said I had a paper jam but it wasn’t that at all - one of the cartridges was a fraction higher than the others, actually the blue one. Fortunately it was close enough to the left (but the whole print carriage was still to the right) that I could get my finger over it to push it down, Bingo! wasted a lot of time trying to clear paper jam!

It appeared my ink cartidge carriage was stuck. As recommended, I moved it physically into the middle and now it is working again. This is the first time I had a problem with the Canon printer since I purchased it over 7 years ago.

By the way, my old HP photosmart printer purchased 20 years ago is still working like a charm as well!!!!

I found I couldn't move it manually, but with a little coaxing from a kitchen knife AFTER UNPLUGGING IT, it was easy.

tarafından

Where did you put the kitchen knife to nudge the cartridge? the black cartridge is only partially visible from the front - it is jammed into the right side. Did you jam the knife under or between or ? Thanks

tarafından

@sallypepper321 where and how did you use the kitchen knife? I tried that as well but I put it at the top of the ink and press down and that didn't work.

how did you do it I have a cannon 922

Hi

I also have this problem, and although I can see what is causing it I don’t know how to fix it.

I have a Canon TS8250, and the ink cartridge carriage will not move completely to the right. The reason is that the inky pad to its right doesn’t stay down - it is about 1-2 mm proud of where it should be and so gets in the way of the carriage. Maybe one or more of the small plastic lugs it is held in by are broken, in which case is it possible to get a replacement for this part? Or is there a way to get it to stay down without getting a replacement? Also if anyone knows the proper name for this inky pad I would love to know what it is! Thank you.

I was eventually advised by Canon to buy a new printer as I couldn’t fix it myself and a new one was cheaper than having it fixed.

I had a problem with a Canon Pixma TS6360. The ink cartridges would not return completely to the right rest position and it was making a loud click when it tried to do this after closing the printer top. What might have been to blame for this was a leaky PGBK black cartridge, that had been replaced from a shop that has recycled cartridges. The women at the shop said that she would not take any responsibility if this cartridge voided the warranty. It was not me that accepted this, it was someone else that took the printer to the shop. I took the leaky cartridge out and cleaned up with isopropyl alcohol and a clean rag. The white flexible band that connects to the ink cartridges carriage, had quite a lot of ink on it and there was a lot of ink on the carriage itself. I replaced the PGBK cartridge with a compatible cartridge. It did not solve the problem the first time. I had to clean several times more. Finally the ink carriage would return properly to the right hand rest position when the printer top was closed. After an attempt to print the problem immediately returned. I took all the cartridges out and turned off the printer power, nearly giving up on it. Several months later I have put back some new cartridges and the carriage now returns properly and consistently to the proper position when the top is closed. The problem now is that the print heads are blocked. I tried unblocking with a print head cleaning kit where you use a syringe with a rubbery transparent tube attached. The cleaning fluid is called Universal Inkjet Solution. (cannot read the name properly because the label is glued and folded over part of the name). The tube from the syringe would not fit over the inkjets in the carriage. The inside diameter of the tube was too small, so I could not squirt a little fluid through the inkjets without some spilling. I made sure I had a folded paper towel placed under the carriage to absorb any dissolved ink or fluid. The problem returned again where the carriage was not returning to the right hand rest position but it is now solved again by me wiping up some excess spilled fluid with a paper towel. The print heads were not cleared by the cleaning, so I have decided to leave the printer overnight with the cartridges installed, thinking that the ink from the cartridges will dissolve dried ink in the print heads (numerous printer self cleaning cycles have hardly made any difference). When I tried printing a test page this morning it was printing better but still not perfectly. I am thinking I should leave it another 12 hours and it might print properly.

After 12 hours it only printed slightly better. I came to the conclusion that at least one of the cartridges: magenta, it was not printing because I could not see much free ink when I looked at the cartridge when out of the printer. The ink levels in the driver app was showing quite a lot of ink. Also in the printer LED display it was showing quite a bit. I took a magenta cartridge exactly the same out of another printer and replaced the magenta cartridge that was not printing.

tarafından

I printed another test page and magenta printed perfectly. I have concluded that the magenta ink in the previous cartridge although quite a lot, was dried up because it had been out of the printer for a few months. Another cartridge that was not printing was PGBK black. I replaced that also with another cartridge exactly the same from another printer. This cartridge although printing properly from another printer was nearly empty. It only printed a bit better in the printer. Either it is not printing perfectly because of been nearly empty or the PGBK inkjet is still slightly blocked. I don't want to do anymore print head cleaning or self test pages until some new cartridges arrive, that I have ordered but I think this will be solved 100%.
