iPhone 11 Rear Camera Glass (Bottom Lens)

I just bought an iPhone 11 on Sunday night. I have owned this phone for about 2.5 days. I traded in my Pixel 3 XL because I thought I would give Apple a shot since google would only offer me $260 for a trade-in for the new Pixel 4 whereas Apple gave me $300.

This morning while in class I noticed a small white smudge on my rear camera lens (bottom camera lens). I have had a MaxBoost mWallet Case on my iPhone since the day of purchase. The white smudge on the bottom rear camera lens ended up being a small fracture. There is no other damage to the phone. Not even around the rim of the camera lens. I contacted Apple Support and they said it cracked due to the magnet/metal plate in the phone case. I have been repairing iPhones for 3+ years and have never heard of magnets shattering glass. I also have never dropped this phone and when placed in my pockets it remains separate from anything else in my pockets such as keys or my wallet. Here are the screenshots of my conversation with the Apple Technician.

I have been researching this as best as I could and couldn't find anything related but I came across this

https://9to5mac.com/2019/09/23/iphone-11...

Even an 11-foot drop test the only thing that was damaged was the Rear Camera itself - no glass damage.

I took it to the Apple Store near me and they agreed they were not sure how it cracked but they said the only option was to pay $399. $399 for the REAR CAMERA GLASS?! They then said I could purchase AppleCare+ for $149 + $99 for a new device because they do not repair the Rear Camera Glass. Yet, if you have a broken display & AppleCare+ a replacement is $29 plus tax. So a $0.10 cent piece of glass is more expensive than an iPhone 11 display?

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement rear camera glass? Or a better solution than paying out of pocket for a $0.10 piece of glass?

For what its worth here are the pictures of my iPhone 11 -_-

I have personally repaired over 10,000 iPhones from i6 to XS Max for Facebook, ITRenew, & my own repair business Hard Break EZ Fix. Never have a seen a camera lens shatter/crack without some other sort of damage to the rim of the lens. Maybe I hit it perfectly on my bed or pocket because those are the only places its been in the past 3 days. Yet the drop tests couldn't crack the glass from an 11-foot drop...

Does anyone have any thoughts on how this cracked?

I have the 11 Pro max and the top camera lens glass cracked in the first fall of the phone. I was wondering if somebody know where to buy a replacement. Thanks

tarafından

Same with my iPhone 11 Pro, had it in a full body armored case and still this happened!!! Really sucks

tarafından

My iPhone 11 also had full body armoured case and do know how it the back glass cracked.

As a friend said; glass is glass and glass can break, probably some pocket change , car keys, even placing the iPhone over some debris or a rough surface

may had damaged the phone. Maybe someone drop it without you noticing. If you had repaired over 10K phone, i'm pretty sure that you had acknowledge that newer iPhones are more fragile to break. Yes it's crazy paying $399+tax for a replacement phone, they will not fix you camera lens, they will exchange your phone for a refurbished one. If I would be on your situation I would just swap the glass.

I have the same issue. Mine was dropped from less than 3ft and camera lens glass cracked only. Not sure what my options are now.

found this part. Could this be a simple fix at a local repair shop?

I just bought a similar product and installed it myself and the part matched in size but not in color. It seems the original part has a polarizer of some sort. It was a simple fix!

How to fix it with the replacement lense

tarafından

I have a iPhone 11 Pro Max. It is one week old with a life proof case since it came out of box and have what I thought was a hair but ended up being a slight fracture of lense. No abuse . Have seen this is looking like common problem with these phones . Very disappointed. Not sure how to move forward.

Hi it happened to my brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Looking for similar cases on the forums, this has started to spread.

It’s a design or manufacturing defect for me.

Hi. I have the same problem but on my main camera lens. I went to an Apple repair store and they told me to pay 699€ for a new phone, the didn’t tell me about Apple care+ or another solution. The AppleCare+ is 150€ and + 99€ to give me a new iPhone 11? Am I right ?

Same happened here with my iPhone 11. Had it for two weeks, and one day, camera was cracked. I don’t know how it might have happened. I never dropped the phone, and I always use a protective case. I think it is a manufacturing defect. I went to Apple yesterday, and they told me the same thing: they do not repair rear cameras, as the rear side of the iPhone is all one piece (rear, cameras and battery), so you need to get a new phone for $399. It makes no sense at all that this happens so often, and they don’t offer a way to repair it at a reasonable cost. Has anyone found a different solution for this?

Just had my lense replaced same problem, 2 months old first iPhone, always been with android all still alive functioning today. Wasn’t the lense the crack is on the camera itself this is annoying, waste of 50$ for replacement lense. Oh on top, my charger literally broke in my phone while charging, metal charge in phone wire pulled right out, apple is too expensive for trash cheap materials don’t know why everyone loves apple. 2/10 in my books. Motorola razor is a much better phone, and mine snapped in half and could still call and function without it’s screen

same thing happened to me. was fine one night then after sitting in my pocket during my commute i took it out to realize my bottom camera on my pro max was shattered. didn’t drop it or anything.. it even had a camera screen protector to make the bump flush with my case. i contacted apple but since i opted out of applecare+ they wouldn’t cover it and i would have to pay the full price for a new phone. one tiny piece of glass worth $1275 in the eyes of apple. i love my iphones but this is ridiculous. especially since i took every precaution (except buying applecare) to make sure this didn’t happen.

The same thing happened with my iPhone as well. There are many complaints that are coming up and mine is also one of them.

If you are a mobile phone repairer then you ought to know the places where you’d get a replacement piece from.

You say you’ve repaired hundreds’ of phones so I’d suggest you ask your piece suppliers to get you a replacement piece. I think that Apple doesn’t allow it’s raw materials within the reach of the general public, as it is a company that believes in a closed source mindset.

I hope you tell us the solution to the problem if you get one.

Regards.

The upper lens on my 11pro was cracked by third day of ownership. Apple should step up and acknowledge defect.

Add me to the list as well. Extremely unacceptable considering I NEVER dropped the phone and have a protect case. This has never happened with any phones in the past. Very disappointing on Apples part.

I found a replacement lens on Amazon and decided to take a chance and do it my self and it was so worth it my camera works great all the same and the best part was I got it for 15$ tip: if you live in Canada it’s more expense so if you order it from the American Amazon to your address it’s wayyy cheaper

Hi Judy, if you go on Amazon you can find a replacement back camera glass for $10.00 but you have to do it yourself which it takes like 5 minutes to do.

Would you recommend adding glue to the lens or does the adhesive on the lens is already enough ? Thanks !
