red splotch on screen during dark scenes

NOT A TOSHIBA. It is an insignia 58” UHD FIRETV LED TV that i got on sale at best buy on black friday. picture looks great other than the fact that during dark scenes during a movie there is a reddish colored splotch that appears in the middle of the screen. also appears during dark loading screens within the TV’s UI

Ended up turning the tv off and started pressing around on the screen with a microfiber cloth where the spot was and it went away. Thanks for the responses and glad it was a simple fix. Hopefully someone else will find this useful as well.

Garrett this could be a bad LED on your backlight array. They have a tendency of giving a reddish/purple hue. The only way to fix it is by disassembling the panel and checking/replacing the backlight array.

Toshiba is right up there with Apple and other companies, that threaten DIY’ers livelihood with their hordes of attorneys. They do not like us, so do not expect any assistance from that company.

do you think that it could possibly be caused by the mounting of the TV? as in the red spot is relatively close to where the mounting screws are in the back of the tv, possibly causing the backlight panel to be flexing further away from the front of the TV?

tarafından

Possible but unlikely since the mounting screw should not go that deep. Can you back it off and see if that makes a difference?

Uneven brightness may be observed when the TV is viewed in a dark environment without a video input source, or with a blank screen. This condition is normal and not a malfunction of the TV. High-precision technology is used to achieve a high level of performance and picture quality. To achieve this level of performance, the back-light setting of the TV is set to maximize the screen brightness.

Doesn’t explain why the red colored patch is still there when watching a movie and is clearly visible on a dark scene.

tarafından

@Garrett Uneven back light, also known as clouding, blooming, mura, banding and un-uniform brightness, is thus a common phenomenon on all LCD TVs. How visible the phenomenon is depends on factors such as the brightness and contrast settings being used and how bright the ambient light is in the room where the TV is situated. Also the temperature of the panel has an effect as certain materials slightly expand/shrink when temperature changes. New TVs can have increased back light bleeding, which will gradually diminish after a few weeks/months of usage.

This light source is most visible when viewing dark scenes or black picture in a dark environment.

tarafından

@ellispctech Backlight bleed shouldn't be red; it should be a white-gray colour. This looks like the screen has burn in.
