I cant reinstall mac os.

I have recently wiped this drive and it won’t let me reinstall lion mac os. I have fast internet but it says unable to install additional components. I have tried changing my date I have changed the internet connection multiple times but it’s as if it doesn’t even attempt to download it. As soon as the installer starts it goes into the negatives and 3 seconds later it says failed to install additional components.

Once more I do not think its an internet issue as I have tried with multiple connections. In this case it auto starts in the negative time remaining and fails 3 seconds later.

You need to install a newer version of OS-X (macOS) I would recommend going with Sierra (10.12.x) and stopping there.

Download this OS installer How to upgrade to macOS Sierra on another Mac system and follow this guide: How to create a bootable macOS Sierra installer drive. Use it to install the OS on your MacBook Air.

But you’ll need to worry about some of your older apps won’t run under Sierra or newer macOS’s. If you really need to stick with Lion you’ll need to get the original install CD and a CD player which works with your system. Or, you’ll need to prep up a OS installer USB Thumb drive using another Mac system following this guide: How to make a bootable Lion install disc or drive

We still have one more issue! Apple has long since stopped maintaining the installer certificates. So they are expired so we need to find away around that with your Lion install (the version of Sierra I linked to above has a newer certificate). Here we need to alter the systems date to a point in time of the Installers certificate I would alter your year to 2012 following this

The issue is that it wont detect the startup drive in fact it doesn’t detect any startup drive and i get a flashing grey question mark. at launch Trying to get to the menu to select a startup drive doesn’t work refresh the vram doesn’t work. And I even tried to do an internet install for the OS going as far as to buy a thunderbolt to ethernet cord and it still wont install the os lion that its trying to install.

I have a bootable usb that’s been formatted as a fat32. Under the utility and drive repair settings it shows up but it wont show up as a bootable usb nor a startup disk.

To give a bit of background I was trying to do a clean install on this computer and wipe everything but the OS when I did this the computer restarted and it started showing the flashing question mark icon.

My current issue is that I have an O.S on a drive but it wont read it as a drive at all.

FAT32 is not a supported volume type for a bootable macOS drive!

You need to reformat the OS installer thumb drive using another Mac system so you can format the drive as GUID / HFS+ (Sierra or older macOS).

If you have installed High Sierra or newer on this system you can use GUID / APFS. But! If you haven't installed High Sierra or newer the systems firmware won't know how to boot off of the APFS volume!

Frankly, I would just stick with GUID / HFS+

Is there anyway to do it without another Mac system I do not have access to one.

Visit an Apple Store or computer store to see if they can help you. If you have access to a windows system there are some add-on apps which might help you HFS+ for Windows by Paragon Software
