Hi all,

I got hold of a A1502 Mid 2014 Macbook Pro Retuna where the keyboard and trackpad wasnt working.

I’ve replaced the battery and trackpad assembly (with new flex cable), SMC, PRAM reset with fresh OS, but still doesn’t work.

Oddly though, if I hold down Option CTRL Shift and the power button, I can see that this resets the SMC as the light on the charger changes colour. But when the mac is up and running, it’s not working. Odd.

Can’t see any marks of water damage, or know if anything is shorting but not sure how to test either. Keyboard illuminates.

Thanks,

Does the onboard diagnostics run without problems or error?

Restart your system and press the D key to enter into it.

Hi Dan,

I can get into diagnostic with external keyboard, in the diagnostic it doesn't work still and comes back with the error;

There may be an issue with the trackpad

Reference code NDR001

There may be an issue with the keyboard

Reference code NDK001

Also to add I get the error "battery needs service PPT004" but I don't get any errors at all on the OS itself.

Lets give this a try: Disconnect both the MagSafe charger and battery (no power at all) now press and hold the power button for a good minute to fully discharge the logic board. Now carefully plug in the MagSafe charger the system should spontaneously restart, is the keyboard and trackpad now working?

If not we need to look deeper at the logic board connections. Take some detailed pics of the connectors (in focus and not blurry) Use a tripod and defused lighting, post them here for me to see Adding images to an existing question

Update (12/29/2019)

Here’s a sets of image which shows a good connector and the latch which appears to have been removed from your keyboard and trackpad logic board connectors (make sure you zoom on them to see).

Properly set

Latch in the up position

So… At this point you’ll need to find the latches and carefully snap them back in. Or if they are missing you’ll need to find a junker to pull them off, or get a set of new connectors to then remove the latches from to save your logic board.

Thank you Dan,

I have tried what you suggested and that hasn't worked. I have uploaded photos to the original post, I hope these are suffice.

Thanks,

Where are your pictures??

Sorry Dan, forgot to attach them to the original post! Now on there.

Only needed a tight set on the Keyboard & Trackpad connectors.

While a bit difficult to tell it looks like the connector clamps are missing! Look at the Update above.

Hi Dan, they're definitely there as the flex cable is 'clamped' in.
