Replacing screen with one from MacBook Air 13'' Mid-2012

Hi,

The screen of my MacBook Air 13" Early 2017 A1466 is broken.

It turns out that I have an old Air 13’’ mid-2012 which does not boot correctly anymore and whose screen is in perfect condition. Any chance I can fir that screen onto the newest Air ?

I’ve seen that the model were not the same, but there look very much alike :

2017: MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013-2017) Display Assembly

2012: MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2012) Display Assembly

They both bear the reference A1466… So, any hope? Thanks in advance for any advice or experience with this.

While the screens are the same, the cables are not! The newer models have a longer cable for the iSight camera cable as its location on the logic board was moved. So sadly you can’t use the older assembly.

Thanks for the highlight, Dan.

And I guess there is no way to switch the cable on the camera side?

But does it mean that the screen is replaceable and will work, as well as the WiFi connexion ?

All the best, Xavier

It's not worth the risk to take the assembly apart to swap out the cable. The WiFi antenna's are the same.

Best to just get the correct display assembly and call it a day!
