Ps4 slim 2015B optic drive issues

I have a ps4 slim cuh-2015B. It was working fine, I was watching a movie on DVD and an update message came on. So no big deal I was going to fix me some food and so I started the update. Came back and it wouldn't work and I had a error message su-42118-6 and my disc wouldn't eject. So I go online to find out how to remove the dvd then find out what the error code was. It said the optic drive was bad. I called ps. I went through their bs and they say send it in. So I start doing research and I replace the optic drive, twice, still doesn't work. Was very careful with disassembly and assembly, took pics and followed YouTube video for teardown and reassembly. Fairly straight forward. Still doesn't work. So after more research I discover people are saying that the optic drive and board are serialized and must be replaced together which then I probably just need to buy another. Then I see that there are rumors going around that it was the update itself that screwed up the ps4. So what's the truth? What is actually wrong with my ps4 and can it be repaired? Thank you for any help.

Thank you very much for your time. Would you have an idea of repair cost? Not expecting exact pricing just approximate price range. Thanks

Depends on area. We charge $120 AUD as we also include drive controller chip as that tends blow too with the fuse.

The optical drives are not serialized starting from a certain model of the PS4 non-slims where they moved the blu-ray drive controller circuitry to the logic board, older PS4 models had a little blu-ray drive controller daughter board sitting on the exterior of the blu-ray drive assembly.

The problem is most likely the disc-feed motor + blu-ray drive controller board fuse on the logic board has blown. You’ll need to take it to a reputable console repair shop in most cases as this requires micro-soldering to fix.

I’m having this issue too, but I continuity checked all 4 Blu-ray fuses on the mobo (indicated per an Andrew Paul video) including the disc feed motor one, and all are intact. I tried replacing the motor board in the optical drive so far, which changed nothing. Will a full drive replacement work? Or is it something else on the mobo?

To further detail my problem, the switches and cable on both the old and new motor board seem to work, as the console powers on when I insert a disc to the front of the slot while it’s off, and it changes the eject button sound to a single beep if I manually actuate the mechanics to get a disc inside and thus release the left side switch. The motor just doesn’t spin, nor does the central spindle spin once a disc is fully inside and the release of that left side switch tells the console that.
