Using earphones, I cant use it on call but can listen to music.

The earphones function nicely for everything EXCEPT FOR CALLS. It doesn’t direct it to my earphones but instead i have to put the phone to my ear and only then can i hear them. I can listen to music and record my voice perfectly with it but it just doesn't for calls of any forms or apps. I am using apple’s earpods…
