Optical drive preventing console from turning on

Hello there!

I bought this Xbox in used condition, but the guy who sold it to me scammed me and i couldn’t get my money back.

The console has a E100 error code, which is stopping it from even booting past the error screen. I’m guessing this is caused by the fact that the optical drive is not plugged in. The thing is that, when i plug it in and turn the console on again, it turns off in a matter of a few seconds.

This is a piece of the log provided by the hard drive:

ODDFW update sequence: 1.

FAILED to find ODD physical device, status = 0xC000000E.

GetOddPhysicalDevice failed.

COddDevice::_Open failed!

Which makes sense since its not connected.

The power supply is good, and I’ve tested the console with another known good one but the same thing happens. I’ve almost given up on the console but I want to make sure that i cant fix it before I sell its parts.

Do you know if the previous owner ever replaced the drive?

No clue, sorry. I can give you some more info though. At first when I opened the optical drive the black and red cables were torn off and touching each other. I soldered them back in the right spot but it still didn't make a difference. Do you think that could've done something?

I opened it again just now and i just noticed that its missing a ribbon cable and some other part, and the only thing remaining is the pcb.

@Santiago Galvez then it sounds like they did replace it but forgot to put the ribbons in. If you can, buy another disk drive and take out the parts from that and put them in. The drive board and console boards are married so if you don't change the board when replacing the drive it won't work and the console will boot with an error to it

@Santiago Galvez yeah it's missing the cable for the laser, and it looks like the laser is missing?
