Replaced battery on 2015 MacBook 12" but not booting correctly

I recently replaced the battery on an early 2015 MacBook 12”, which went quickly and without any obvious issues (e.g. reconnecting cables, etc).

However, when trying to reboot the mac will not function on the battery only and attempts to boot only when the USB-C cable is plugged into the mac.

After about 30 seconds I receive a boot sound and then a battery icon which shows >90% charge. The screen then goes blank and after another 10 seconds the Apple Logo returns with the boot progress bar, which stops after a small part of the white fill/complete shows.

I’ve tried all suggested resets but with no success. Any ideas?
