I want to upgrade my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid-2014)

Hello,

I am looking to use this computer for personal use and work use. I want to upgrade my Macintosh HD to 512 GB and if possible within budget, my 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 to 16GB.

I was quoted 733$ CAD. Does anyone know of any reputable websites that sells parts? Is there someone who can help me with this?

Also, keep in mind I am currently running Mojave because I do not have enough memory to update.

While someone with deep soldering skills can desolder the RAM chip and swap them out with larger one its not something I recommend for DIY. Instead I would recommend replacing the logic board with one that is already has 16MB of RAM. But as Jesse pointed out this won’t be cheap! MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Mid 2014) 2.6 GHz Logic Board this being the cheapest model board.

Swapping out the SSD is a lot easier! While still not cheap either!

I would recommend you look for a used system which meets your needs. I’m sure you can find a 2015 13” retina model!

Upgrading the RAM in these machines does require microsoldering and if you’re going to be spending that much money on upgrading an older machine, you could get a much more powerful desktop that will support future upgrades.
