iPod 5th gen cannot sync and charge fast

Hi all, so my 5th gen has this problem where it refuses to sync & charge at the normal speed, with confirmed working cables, chargers etc. and a mojave and el capitan macbook

I think its a dock or board problem as I plugged in an USB ammeter and it charges at 0.05A, meaning charge time to full is ~10 hrs

But after jiggling the cable on the dock side and sometimes randomly, it syncs with my mac and the USB ammeter reads a much more normal 0.43-0.49A, however this connection is extremely unstable.

Is there anything I can do?

*no visible damage to dock or motherboard

*I have not restored it yet on itunes as im too scared the connection will die during the restore process

*diskmode doesnt change anything, doesn't show up in disk utility/itunes when charging at 0.05A
