Visio E55-E2 Screen Black, Sound Still Plays

It shuts off randomly with no rhyme or reason as to why. Powering on and off restores the image until it occurs again, usually within an hour. I have done the flashlight test and can see my picture just fine. What steps should I take next as far as repairing this unit as a new television really isn’t in the budget right now. I’m pretty confident in my ability to repair any parts shy of soldering.

Update, I looked up a previous repair I had done under warranty and the rep replaced the power board previously, so I’m inclined to believe in a pattern. I tried to reseat all connections and still came up with the same issues. I’ve ordered a new Power Board. I’ll update once it arrives and I install it.

Update: the power board came in and after replacing it I’ve had no issues. I’ll update again should an issue arise. Thank you, oldturkey!

I posted my update and literally 2 minutes later the screen went off again. Ive literally had no issues for almost two hours now.

How's your TV holding up after this repair? I'm having the same root issues. Tv powers on as usual, then 1 HR later the picture flickers then goes black. Audio is still there. Would be nice to know if it's the power supply.

famicomman89 your boards look good and I cannot make out any obvious damaged component. Vizio is a bit of an odd brand since they are using a hodgepodge of parts and boards. QA is not always perfect so they have had their fair share of bad solder connection. Remove your wires and reseat them after you check their connectors. Check the solder on those. It should appear in a shiny silver. Dirty grey with cracks could be indicative of bad solder connections snd might require a reflow.

Since you can see the screen with a flashlight your main board is most likely okay. The issue should be either the power board or the backlight strips themselves ( another common Vizio Achilles heel). I would measure the voltage on the power board to the backlight LED’s (set your voltmeter on something like a 300 V scale and see what you get). If the voltage fails it’s most likely your power board. If it does not, you may have either failed backlight strips or connector issues. Let us know what you find out.
