iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 LED 1 illuminates briefly then turns off

After installing a new AC/DC power supply, when connecting the power cord, the diagnostic LED #1 comes on briefly and then turns off.  Disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord returns the exact same result and for what appears to be the exact same time.  The LED doesn't flicker, rather gives a good steady one second illumination before going out. Thinking I had possibly installed a faulty power supply, I replaced it with a second new one yet the results are the same.

As I understand it, LED #1 Indicates power has been detected and should be illuminated whenever the iMac power cord is plugged in whether the unit is on or off.  If LED #1 indicates that power has been detected, why would it come on and then methodically turn off?  It's as though power is being detected long enough for some secondary system, switch or fuse to shut it off or cause it to trip.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's more information in case it helps - I just made a video of the issue and in fact LED 1 comes on for a full three second before going out. Also, when it goes out, LED's 2 and 3 briefly flash as if they're possibly causing LED 1 to trip off? LED 4 doesn't light or flash at all.

Also, if the power button is pressed and held and then the power cord is plugged in, LED 1 will stay illuminated as long as the power button is being pushed. As soon as the power button is released, LED 1 turns off with LED's 2 & 3 flashing briefly.

SHORT ANSWER: Disconnect the Hard Drive

After reading through hours of any possibly related posts, a couple "posted comments" specifically mentioned LED 1 coming on for 3 seconds then LED's 2 and 3 flash as they all turned off. They also had replaced the power supply and as a last resort stated they had heard someone fixed the situation by unplugging the hard drive. I disconnected the hard drive and the iMac started right up.

Note: The hard drive I disconnected was working fine and still does when connected as an external or to a docking station, including being able to boot to it. I've since replaced the hard drive and the iMac has been working fine since.

I apologize for not being able to again find the posted comments that brought me to this solution. I'm also surprised that I'm not finding anything about this being a solution for any issues related to the symptoms I was experiencing.
