My MacBook won’t turn on, sometimes

Hey,

I have a late 2013 13” Retina MBP, everything was working totally fine until the trackpad completely died, I used it like that for a bit and then whenever you touched the trackpad the keyboard would stop working until you stopped touching the trackpad, anyway that’s not the point I just said it because it may have something to do with this.

Now it’s doesn’t turn up sometimes, no fan, no chime, nothing, but if you leave it for sometime and then try again it boots up and works just fine, well with all the listed above, I thought that I could be the keyboard but I tried with the power pads, disconnecting the keyboard and battery and plugging it in and nothing I don’t know what else to do,

I’ve reset the SMC, the NVRAM, Diagnostics are fine apart from keyboard and Trackpad, it just like dies and whenever it wants comes back to life.

Also sorry for the long post

Given your systems age let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

I'm thinking your battery needs replacing.

@danj hey, yes I already have it it had like 650 cycles, I disconnected the battery and it worked if you plugged the MagSafe in, it started and then you shut it down plug it in again it worked but if you leave it sometime off it won’t boot up again

@danr28 - please post the screenshot so I can see it.

I removed it, it was in poorly condition anyway, I can’t post the screenshot because it doesn’t have a battery @danj

OK, now that makes sense!

Your system requires a battery to work properly. The system has many different types of sensors throughout, so without a battery the system is confused.

You are running in SMC safe mode which pushes the fan to a higher RPM as well as lowers the CPU’s clocking as SMC thinks there is an issue with the system and doesn’t want it from overheating which would damage things. Even still SMC will also set a latch state to prevent you from staring your system when the voltage sensors are high or if the temp still gets too high (as it likely did here)

To fix this you need to get a new battery MacBook Pro 13" Retina (Late 2013-Mid 2014) Battery and follow this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013 Battery Replacement
