Any external thunderbolt SSD will do. They work just as well as the integrated one.
If you want internal upgrades, forget it.

Sorry the new retina models don’t offer any upgradability! Your only option is replacing the logic board which could allow you to jump to a larger SSD (from 128 to 256, 512 GB, or 1 TB SSD or any other combo). Not sure if it’s worth it, sorry ;-{
