Breville Smart Oven Timer Will Only Set 9 minutes At a Time

I have a Breville Smart Oven (BOV845) and I have it on the bake setting. On this setting, the timer will not go past 9 minutes so I'm constantly having to add 9 minutes to cook the full cycle for whatever I'm making. As you can imagine, this is an enormous pain. Breville support says that the warranty has lapsed and they cannot troubleshoot this problem over the phone. I would need to send it back for repairs to the tune of $140 (the customer support agent was gracious enough to offer 24 cents off). I've searched online and have found answers to many issues with this oven but not the one I need. So here I am, hoping someone here has the knowledge to help me fix this issue since I can't seem to figure it out. Thank you so much in advance, I look forward to (hopefully) having a solution to this soon!

**I have done the basics of resetting the oven by unplugging/plugging back in and checking the outlet.

Look at this thread for instructions on how to get the control board out of the oven.

Fixing the start button

If you scroll down far enough in the discussion, you will see that someone offered a better way to take it apart so that a series of 5 black screws aren't so difficult and remove.

The rotary encoder for the Time dial is the same as the ones used for the Function and Temp/Darkness selectors. They fail after a time and don't work at all but I suspect that encoder you've got is on the way out but hasn't completely failed yet.

I can verify that the encoder is a Bourns PER231-P19-N0010 low profile 23 mm 10 pulse/20 detents per revolution mechanical rotary encoder available from both Mouser and Digikey. At the time of writing this, only Mouser had stock on these so I ordered from them. Cost was just over $5 CAD so probably would have been ~$4 USD each on the US site.

Mouser Link:

https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/Bour...

Digikey Link

https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detai...

If you want the US and not the Canadian Mouser and Digikey sites I think all you have to do is replace the .ca in the links with .com.

I recommend you replace all of the encoders at the same time because you never know when the other ones are going to fail in the same way. Replacing them on the control board is fairly straightforward and easy if you know anything about soldering and removing and replacing components on PCBs. There are only 5 legs on each encoder and they're easy to get at with a soldering iron without touching anything else.

I replaced the Temp/Darkness encoder on my control board which had failed completely with one I sourced at Mouser and now the temperature and toast darkness adjustment works again.
