How to configure setting to get the best picture on external monitor?

I have a Dell 4K monitor (Dell P2715Q, older model, but pretty good color and picture quality though), and I used to connect it with my window’s laptop. Recently changed to macbook pro 13” 2018 model, however, when connecting it with this monitor, color is not as good compared with when using the windows’ laptop (the retina screen itself from macbook pro is great, just the image showing on the external display is not that good as expected), check the scale setting under “Display”, and found it can keep the 4K level if choosing the minimum fonts there, but will look as 1080p level if choosing the default font. Is there a way to contain the 4K image quality, but can also select the default or right size of font there (the minimum font is too small to see, the default font is good in size, but feels like the display is just a regular 1080p monitor)?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Sorry I don’t think you’ll get anything better.

The 13” model only has the intergraded graphics engine within the CPU chip which limits what this system can offer. From EveryMac:

Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 graphics processor that shares memory with the system.

This model has a 13.3" color widescreen LED-backlit display with IPS technology with a 2560 by 1600 native resolution at 227 ppi (178-degree viewing angle). It has a brightness rating of 500 nits, a wide color gamut (P3), and True Tone technology, as well. It also supports scaled resolutions of 1680 by 1050, 1440 by 900, and 1024 by 640.

As far as altering Icon & Font sizes, you can alter the desktop and folder Icons & Fonts to larger one by first clicking on your desktop space and right mouse/trackpad then go to Show View Options alter things as you see fit!

@danj - Thanks Dan, I tried that "Show view options" here, but it looks like nothing will be altered on screen no matter what value I changed there. Also, I tried my older MacBook Pro 15" 2015 model with AMD R9 GPU equipped on it, and looks like the same on this external Dell display, I'm wondering if it is because of the limitation of compatibility between Non-Apple display and Apple devices. Any thoughts?

@hru1207 - I haven't played around much with external displays as I own two Thunderbolt units and they suit my needs (still not Retina) on my Mac Pro.

@danj - Yeah, Thunderbolt Display might be a better choice in this case, anyway, thanks for your comments.

@danj - Hello Dan, do you have any clue about the other issue I posted recently, that issue is kind of mystery to me. Here is the link:

iMac won't start after installing SSD and dust cleaning

Thanks in advance!
