Weird Display on MacBook Pro

Hi guys so I’ve had this weird display of pink and blue flashing lines across my MacBook screen. It suddenly appeared one day when I went to tilt the screen back a little, and has since been a problem. There is no external damage to the laptop so im not sure what has happened. I’ve only been able to temporarily resolve the problem by tilting the screen back and forth until I find a sweet spot, and when I do I just have to leave the laptop open all the time. Though finding a sweet spot has become increasingly difficult. Any fixes for this?

If it works by tilting the display, you have a broken display flex cable.

Whole display replacement is required to fix the issue, which is a very expensive repair if you can’t get Apple to fix it for free.

Not sure if this is a cable issue (damaged) or more a cable to T-CON solder joint failure. Apple did have a bunch of systems which encountered issues with a poor solder job.

I agree Apple should fix it under an extended warranty. Likely need to ask for a warranty exception to cover this given the age.

@danj Maybe, but the end result is the same. Anything broken above the short display flex is an expensive repair.

@tomchai - Very true! If you have to fork it over!

What are the chances of me being able to fix this problem by myself?

tarafından

@Sasha Leira Very high if you spend a lot of money buying new parts. For an in-place fix, no chance at all.

All MacBook Pros from 2016 to 2019 suffer from a flex cable issue called "flexgate". This means that the cable that connects the display to the main logicboard is too small and hence, it tears a bit when you open the lid too much, Apple has launched a replacement program for the users to give a free replacement of the faulty display. So you need to take it to an Apple Store and get them to replace the screen. Hope this answer helped :D

@honda_fanboy - Not quite true! The 2016/17 13" & 15" models had it bad as the backlight cable was short! The 13" having it the most - thats "FlexGate". The 2018 model and newer had a longer backlight cable which resolved the backlight issue.

But with that said... People have managed to damage the data cables by jamming a paperclip between the case top and the chin plate cracking the glass which in turn damages the cables. That is mis-use not Apples fault!

This looks different as we see an image so this is more like the solder joint issue of the cable to the T-CON board. as the constant tug breaks down the bad solder joint to the point of failure.

What if my warranty is up? Will they still replace it for free?

If I get a 3rd party replacement screen for my A2159 EMC 3301 13" 2019 2-port Thunderbolt MacBook Pro, will I have any compatibility issues with apples' "hardware pairing" issues.

Will truetone, brightness etc be good?
