A1707 Does Not Wake Up After Lid Closed

Hello again to everyone,

Its me again :) As you may remember I had a problem with fans and slow working with this computer and it was totally trackpad. I found out that I ve knocked out the sensor of trackpad. But now I have realised that computer does not wake up after lid closed and opened. It stays on black screen. The computert keeps working and I realised that my power button also does not work after I open the lid to shut down the computer. Any idea where it can happen from?

The no wake/power when the lid is opened definitely sounds like there could be an issue with the Hall sensor. There are 2 of these models on the left and right ends of the board. They are indicated by the orange on this picture. I would just check to make sure nothing there is amiss. But, given your previous trackpad history, I will also mention this signal is transmitted to the trackpad... likely so it can be disabled when the lid is closed. I would check to see if there's an issue with the SMC_LID line on the board, if you have access to boardviews. Or check to see if its possibly shorted on the trackpad end. It's the pin in the lower left corner of the trackpad connector (on the board). You might need to do some detective work to figure out where that goes on the trackpad end.

I tried to repair a laptop with similar problem. When the lid is closed and open again, the display is black and the keyboard light still working. When I used a magnet and ran it along the top right hand edge near the USB-C ports then the display turned on again. After the right hand hall sensor replaced, the laptop worked as normal; it’s not an easy job to do as the solder points can be damaged easily.

Thank you Alisha C. for the information about the hall sensor.

Try to run a magnet along the top right hand side near the USB-C ports to see if the display would turn on again. If it works, the hall sensor on the right hand side needs to be replaced.
