Disable Hard Drive Temp Sensing?
Hi all,
I replaced the battery in my 2017 MBP 15 yesterday and now the system runs the fans at max and the CPU is used in excess of 500% by kernel_task. As per a different post here on iFixIt I loaded TG Pro which indicates a possible fault with the hard drive temperature sensor. This sensor is not serviceable except with a logic board replacement.
I’ve already purchased a replacement PC complete. I’m wondering if there is a way to disable hard drive temperature sensing so this current PC is at least reasonably useful while I wait for the new computer to arrive.

Did you try running the onboard diagnostics to see if offered an deeper info? Restart your system and press the D key to enter
Sadly if a sensor has malfunctioned you'll need to replace it in some form or other. SMC is a bit picky and depending on the cause it just can't be overridden.

Hi Dan,
I did run the "D" diagnotics and it shows PFM006 SMC error as well as PPN001 Power Management error. Only the TG Pro diagnostic was more specific. I was hoping there was a Terminal string I could pass to disable the hard drive monitor so I could work more effectively for a day or so.

@chrison600 - Lets get a better idea on your battery, maybe its the real issue here. Install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

I would tend to agree, but the computer behaves the same with the original battery reinstalled. Since I've already purchased a replacement PC, it might not be worthwhile to switch back to the replacement battery for diagnostic purposes. I'm just looking for a way to implement a bandaid until arrival of the new PC, which should be here tomorrow.
