Bluetooth not working even after sending it to HP

I had no issue with Bluetooth of my HP Chromebook Model 14c- ca0235ng for sometime. The mobile phones got connected, one phone was paired.

All of sudden, the mobile phones were not recognized. (Strangely the Bravia TV gets recognized by Bluetooth).

I contacted HP and talked with them. Since it was under guarantee, HP asked to send it to them for repair. Few weeks later, I received my laptop back.

In a paper from HP, it was mentioned that motherboard was changed.

I started my Chromebook, switched Bluetooth and searched for devices and lo, the issue was still there! Grrrr...

So my question: Does anyone know what the problem could be? Except the Bravia TV, the chromebook simply does not display any of my devices. If i check from mobile phone, the Chromebook is also not to be seen.

Is bluetooth switched on in the settings? Also check that your Bluetooth network isn't hidden (so other devices can see and connect)

If there are devices saved that connected previously I would remove them, restart the device, then try to connect them again.

I forgot to mention to go to settings and check for any updates that might have been released, it could be a bug from a previous update that is now fixed.

Yes, Bluetooth is on. Strangely, I can pair it with TV, headsets, etc. But only mobiles are not visible. Do you know if Chrome OS has any codes that identifies and distinguishes mobile phones with other devices? I remember that I had a beta version for some time before this issue started.

Have you checked in settings for updates? I can't see why you couldn't connect a phone to your Bluetooth. What might be the case is that the bluetooth will only connect to outputs, like speakers etc. That's just a guess though.

Check for updates in settings on your phone also.

All devices have MAC addresses, this identifies the type of device and your Bluetooth module assigns them accordingly.

Week, Chrome OS is running with latest update, Bluetooth IS connecting. I've tried with 4 different mobiles! 😥 Chromebook isn't visible on mobiles, mobiles aren't visible on Chromebook. With eachother, they can connect i.e. Bluetooth is in visible mode when scanning.

Question is how does Chrome OS work with Bluetooth? An external Bluetooth adapter in USB doesn't work like it does on a windows machine. (I've tried it).

I think you have two options: Send it back to HP again, and tell them it's still not working, or buy a new one.

Edit: I think I may have figured out the issue. If you have an Android phone, then Chrome OS pairs to it using a new feature, "Pair with Android phone", under Connected Devices, not Bluetooth.

My Chromebook is managed by an organization, so I can't confirm if this works, but I definitely can show you where the setting is.

Perhaps it is a 'feature' not a flaw. In researching your problem I found this on Google's Chromebook support page:

"Tip: Your phone cannot pair to your Chromebook with Bluetooth.'

On a different page however it mentions chrome OS 71 and up. Check in your settings app, if your version is not at least 71, update and try again. I doubt this is the problem since it looks like updates are supposed to be automatic, still worth checking. How to update (if you need). Is Here

Thanks!

The Chrome OS is updated to latest stable release (101).

@whispher Hey, read the edit, I think I may have solved the issue.

My mobile was paired. But now it is not possible because Chromebook does not find it. :(

Bluetooth settings are perfectly okay. I can pair it with TV, headsets, etc. But only mobiles are not visible.

By the way, there's no such thing as "update to the latest driver" on Chrome OS like on Windows.
