Brother HL-L2350 won't recognize toner cartridge

I have watched several youtube videos on this, and followed the official brother instructions about the error ("Cannot detect. Please reinsert toner cartidge"), and have removed and reinserted it several times. I've even tried to clean the contacts with some rubbing alcohol (although I'm not confident I got the right spot on the printer side). It is an OEM cartridge. I'd really rather not buy a new cartridge if I don't have to (this one is nowhere near empty).

The offical guidelines recommend replacing the toner cartridge with an official brother cartridge, but this is an official cartridge (and not very old), and new ones are $80.

The toner cartridge electrical connections are on the left underside of the assembly. Four brass colored flat connectors on a 3/4" x 3/4" (approximate dimensions) circuit board make physical connections to four narrow spring loaded 'fingers' in the printer. When contacts are made, these fingers retract a little but remain electrically connected as each one rubs onto the flat pads on the cartridge. With printer power off and cartridge removed, identify the four fingers and put a finger on them, pushing down to feel them retract from finger pressure. All four fingers should be above the plastic assembly by approximately 1/8".
