After fan replacement, battery no longer being detected and charging

I replaced the fan that was causing the laptop CPU to go to 90-100c causing a loud fan and that was fixed successfully. However, now the battery is no longer detected. It has an x symbol before typing in the password and whilst the laptop is on there is no battery symbol in the menu bar. Plugging out the charger makes the laptop immediately shut off.

If I don't have the charger plugged in and the computer is switched off, the 'battery needs charging symbol appears' and that's the only time the battery is acknowledged as being present.

If I plug out the battery data/daughter cable from the logic board and try to turn on the PC that symbol no longer appears and there is no power in the system so it must be detecting the battery to some extent. I have also tried doing SMC and PRAM resets multiple times. Is there any other suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like you forgot to reconnect a cable or it’s not seated correctly. Review Steps 10 thru 14 in this guide MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017 Battery Replacement. While the last step has you folding back the cable I prefer taking it fully out.

What does CoconutBattery show? Installed it and post a snapshot here for us to see

@danj Hi, thanks for the reply

I folded back the cable originally however upon putting the logic board back into the laptop I noticed that the connector fell out of the place that it was connected to - I have completely de-attached it and reattached it a few times and that doesn't seem to help. I have also made sure that the battery power connector that is fixed and held down by the big screw is pressing against the two gold contacts underneath too.

I have bought and received a replacement of that cable that connects the logic board to the battery board so I will try that in case the cable has become faulty. I also have a replacement battery, but hopefully I don't need to actually replace that.

I will get a screenshot of the coconut battery to post, but when I checked yesterday it showed that the cycle count was 0 and that the capacity and charge was 0 too.

I've updated my post with the coconutBattery information

@Kman - Well the good news the cable connection appears to be the issue here! CoconutBattery is reporting no access to the micro-controller within the battery.

So is the cable damaged or did the connection get messed up? At this point we need some pics of the connections to see what’s up.

@danj - Okay I'll post a picture of it and I will try the replacement cable too

@danj Pictures added to my question, will check if the replacement cable works
