I am in the process of swapping my New 3DS XL shell and I ran into an issue. The hinge on my N3DS XL won’t go in all the way when I try to push it back into place. It’ll only go half way. I want to know if the hinges on both of these models are the same so I could purchase the hinge of the 3DS XL model and install it on the N3DS XL model.

Hinges on 3DS XL and New 3DS XL look fairly similar, and i saw several listings on Aliexpress for hinges that would theoretically work on both models so i guess that yes, it would work.
But are you sure that your hinge needs to be replaced? If it goes only half way, it could just mean that it is not aligned properly with the shell. If you look at the little white part of your hinge barrel, you'll notice that one side is longer than the other. It is supposed to interlock with a notch in the shell, try to make sure those are aligned correctly.
Also, to remove and put back the hinge on those models, the console needs to be in the open position.

As I was trying to push the hinge back into place, it’ll only go so far. I have tried pushing it in all the way from the closed position to the almost open position. Yet still no success at getting the hinge all the way in. I will keep trying tho thank you!
@edward85819 Maybe the barrel itself isn't in the right position, it is supposed to look like this:
The longer side of the white part is supposed to be at the bottom when viewed from this angle, this way it can click with the shell when the console is in the open position (fully open, as if you were playing it).
If your hinge is already aligned this way, then i'm at a loss.
I tried that but i think the new shell is a bit smaller than the original which prevents me from pushing it all the way in. Thank you for the help tho!
