I have a imac and recently it wont boot up or start up, when i turned the imac on, it appears the apple for a little bit and then turns to a gray screen and it will stay in that screen forever without do anything. i just tried to do everything that i know but it wont work . please i need help. also if you live near cincinnati i might take the imac to you if you are able to fix ix

Try starting up from your system installation disk by inserting the disk at startup and holding down the "C" key. If this works go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities > Disk Utility and see if you can repair the hard drive.

+ If holding the C key doesn't work. Try the samething only holding down the "Option" key. That will take you to a menu where you can select the installation disk to boot to.
