Video @ 480p and then no video at all
Manufacture date is 2008-04-10
I hooked up the XBox 360 with an aftermarket component cable. I was able to get 480p output but failed to change the setting away from 480p. I power cycled the console, and was no longer able to get any video at all. There were no red rings on any of the quadrants.
I was able to replicate the video failure (no video at all) using a genuine Microsoft component cable. I didn't test with an HDMI cable. That's the biggest reason why I want to fix this console. It's the only one in the house with an HDMI output.
I'm aware of two methods to address this problem. One puts new thermal grease on the GPU and the other takes a heat gun to the video port solder joints. I'm not sure if my console has cracked or dry solder. I speculate if this were the case, then I would not be able to get video output at all on the first try.
How should I proceed given the unit's manufacturing date?
