Mac won't turn on after battery replacement?

Hi,

I recently replaced the battery in my 2019 Macbook, and now it won't charge (or if it is, I can't tell, because the screen isn't turning on). Obviously there could be a lot of reasons for this; I've already tried putting the old battery back in (it was dying but still functional) and still nothing. I feel very confident I didn't rip / break anything important while replacing the battery, but if anyone is willing, I'd be happy to send some photos to verify that. At most I ripped/removed some tape and adhesive. Are there some other troubleshooting tactics I could try to figure out what's wrong?

edit: I've tried resetting the SMC, I don't think it worked but I'll try again tomorrow

Hi, you haven’t stated whether the Air is turning on at all, so I’m presuming that the air is on but the display is not.

This is a link to instruction on how to reset

NVRAM, PRAM and SMC on any Mac at Macworld.com

You should find the reset type you need if you read the article.

Hope this helps

Hi, I've tried resetting the SMC (forgot to add it to my original question because I honestly forgot I tried, but I did) and it didn't work. I don't know if the laptop is turning on at all, it doesn't have anything on the exterior that would light up if it's on besides the screen and I can't hear the fans or any kind of startup sound. Is there a way to tell if it's just the display that's not working?

Honestly, you’ll need to look at confirming voltages inside the unit.

Also you might need to use the NVRAM reset as I believe they mentioned it was part of battery control.

@decadessen81812 How should I go about that? Just with a multimeter while it’s charged/charging? Since there’s no actual signs of life from the computer, not even a startup ping, I think it might just be not turning on.

Without opening up the whole back, I would start with using a multimeter by removing power cord & the battery, then plug power cord in and test battery box connections for power output to battery.

This should give some indication of at least power going to battery, then you could proceed to looking deeper by opening up the laptop & trying to follow power through the board & components.

Sorry, doing too many things at once, it’s an air so you’ll have to open it up to do some tracing.
