No, the only backlight MacBook was the short-lived unibody, between the core 2 duo and unibody there are a TON of changes, parts aren't just interchangeable like that. The placement of keyboard ribbon alone I think puts it out of the question.

I'm pretty sure that the Unibody wasn't backlight either, a friend of mine has one, and his isn't backlight, however i believe the 13" MacBook Pro (Which Basicly is a 13" MacBook Unibody) has a backlight keyboard.

The lower speed Unibody (2.0 GHz) did not have a backlit keyboard. The higher speed (2.4 GHz) did have a backlit keyboard. Weird, eh? Regardless, you all are right that you can't backlight a MacBook keyboard without some serious custom modification.

I've heard of people modding the unibody without a backlight to be backlit, buy yeah, that seems to be the general thing

Yeah, we have had no trouble just replacing the non-backlit upper case on the MacBook Unibody with the backlit upper case. The difference in interface is a single cable that both version have a connector for.

I found a "guide" of some sorts on Flickr where a guy took a MacBook Air keyboard and put the back light parts into his MacBook. I would give it a difficulty level of incredibly hard, but I just bough my own MBA top case, so I will find out for myself.

I will post pictures if I succeed in this. I'm going to also see if I can put the multiPod Touch track pad in too. : )

Sadly no, I ended up shorting the computer out while trying to find power and tapping into the Firewire port. Luckily the machine sustained no damage, but my hopes and dreams did. Also I found out the hard way that the plastic that transfers light is fragile and it broke. There goes $40 down the drain.

I'm a tech and yes it can. You'll need to replace the modular electronic assembly that connects the trackpad and keyboard as well as the non existent backlight film with the parts from the later model. I'll cost about $100
