The Nintendo DS is Nintendo's seventh generation handheld game console and is the first of its kind across all systems with dual-screen technology and use, apart from clamshell Game & Watch systems.

Audio doesn't work

Good evening, I received a Nintendo DS which works perfectly except for the audio. Before trying to change the speaker, are there any other ways to fix this? Luca

Hi Luca!

To be honest, I think it’s strange that the 2 speakers are dead. I don’t think it’s speaker related. You can try to swap them (as it’s still is a possibility that they are both dead). It’s very easy to replace them for the original DS (no soldering needed).

Now, it’s very possible that the speaker boards (where the speaker is connected to) are broken and need to be replaced! To give an idea, you can follow this guide: Nintendo DS Upper LCD Screen Replacement (till step 16).

It’s also possible that the audio IC died. But let’s try the other 2 (more easier) options first!

Please let us know how it goes!

Good afternoon, I removed the motherboard from the shell and I tried test it with some "GOOD" top parts that i obtained fixing others nintendo ds and I discovered that all of them do not play any sound. So I tried test them also with a headphones with jack but is the same… What should i do now? Luca

Hi Luca! So, you took the motherboard from the "No sound DS" and tested it on other DS consoles and there is still no sound?

if this is the case, it probably is the Audio IC.... This one is difficult to fix.

You need soldering experience here to get it fixed.

I'll upload a photo regarding the components on the original DS motherboard, so you can decide if you want to fix it or not!
