david, this could be caused by a few different faults. The first thing I'd do is to check the wiring harness coming form the radio. Make sure the insulation around the wiring is still intact and that it does not rub against any metal. If all that is satisfactorily, you may have to remove the radio itself and take a look at the inner circuit.
