MacBook has? folder after laptop powers on?

I have a 2006 Macbook 13.3 laptop is mint no os.I have a Macbook Install disk for 2006 Mac os x install disc 1 and 2.I also have mac osx snow leopard new 10.63.I place the 2006 disc install and spins in drive then spits out after 45 seconds. I have checked and hd is fine.My idea was to put 2006 osx on then upgrade to snow leopard 10.6.3.Is it possible these 2006 install disc are for different macbook?ANY ANSWERS ARE GREAT,advice welcome. Thank you in adavance!

If they are grey

they are machine specific. You need to find a commercial install disk.

Jonathon - Can you get your self to one of the Apple Stores? If you can bring in your system and the CD/DVD's you have to the genius bar with a sad face they should be able to install the OS on your system from there store copies of OS's they have. Once you have a working system make sure you make a few backups on CD and/or ext HD as you'll hate your self having to go through this again.

If they can't help you you'll need to find an old retail copy of Tiger (10.4) or Leopard (10.5) as your system is a PowerPC not Intel based CPU. Snow Leopard (10.6) and newer only support Intel based systems.
