How can I buy a keyboard from abroad?

Hi Ifixit community!

I have a problem. I want to offer for a present to my girlfriend a macbook pro. Such a good present. But we live in France, ans she's Hungarian. And i Called the apple store, to know if i can buy a macbook with a hungarian keyboard... And it's not possible. It's a QWERTZ with 4 or 5 letters more which exists just in hungary, and very important. So what can I do ? I can't even buy the macbook from the hungarian apple store, and i don't find a website where i can buy just a keyboard to change it later if i buy a normal macbook (i mean with a french or english keyboard). So i really need your help. In more it's emergency cuz it's for a birthday which is soon!

Thanks everybody!

Yeh I think it's a very great idea, and the most easy. (and the less expensive).

Thank you, it's perfect I think.

Hello Buddy,

Easy way! Due to my profession I speak and write in Russian and Portuguese as well, Roman and Cyrillic alphabet, and I sort my problem following the option 2.

There are 2 ways out:

1 - First and the most complicated from my point of view. You buy a bluetooth keyboard and connect to your Macbook.

2 - The easiest one from my point of view. You buy "stickers", either French or Hungarian, and stick your Hungarian letters on top of your original keyboard. I believe that you or your girlfriend know a Hungarian and/or French keyboard very well, I'm not sure if you are familiar with Mac or not but, you can always go to Preferences and set a language and keyboard that you wanna work with.

My advice here is that if you are going to work with French language just keep your English keyboard. AS same as in Portuguese in French you have lots of accents topping the letters as such as: à, á, è, é, ê, ç, ñ and many more. For that you just press and hold the letter you wish to stress and all of the options will come up easily.

You can buy a bluetooth keyboard or stickers from amazon.com, they delivery internationally.

Here is the link for your stickers:

Hope it was helpful

Please let me know.

Cheers.

Anselmo

As long as you buy a European keyboard (British, French, etc.), you can access all the Hungarian characters from Mac OS X. You can buy a keyboard cover like this:

Or get some stickers.

The US keyboard is a little problematic, because it has 1 less key, which means the number 0 is only accessible with the help of the Alt/Option.

Everyone who wants a Hungarian keyboard outside of Hungary should consider a British/UK/International English keyboard, and it'll work perfectly, or if you live in France or Germany, then a French or German keyboard will be OK. Of course the labeling will be incorrect, but the physical keys are all there.
