Dead Control Screen and Light out on Fridge Side (FIXED)

Ordered a NEW 5304527931 and installed 2 Days ago. Looks and works perfectly. And it took a while to plug in the LED, as I had to use a Hemostat to squeeze on the wire end that would open the mouth of the plug to fit the LED. But now I have a beautiful Dispay with Degrees, and a light that goes on when using ICE or Water. I think someone must have had this area open before as the LED wasn't plugged in. All good, and all perfect.

Finally got up to my Daughers and measured the Voltage of the Red and Black, and it was 15.73 Volts, so that was good. Then I installed the eBay purchase of control board 5304527931, that looks like mine, but bought using that plastic case # on the back...8076419. So I have replaced the ice chute, now drops ice or water, and tongue springs back into position. And control panel NOW lights up, where as last 2 weeks has been black. Although you can see the missing parts of the LED #'s. But fantastic... Just to see the screen lit, and ice and water on demand working again. I guess instead of buying a $27 8076419 control board, I should invest a little more in a 5304527931. Thanks for the help. Also, still not sure why control board has that LED strip, but no wires going to it, so that when in use, would light up the water cup or container... But fantastic day, here....

Haven't checked for 12 Volts DC at the J4 Red and Black, as the Refrigerator in Question is 40 miles from me, and I always like to have a few ideas in line before taking the drive. Will get back with voltage asap.

Added 3 shots of under the black plastic on the control panel, showing any numbers visible. Imagine only one Square #2 Screw head holding black plastic on. really easy. Funny, when I search online for the Frigidaire 242209710 control board, I see 85% of them are attached to another larger white board. Must be a ton of different boards, thru the years.

I was working on the ICE Chute as the spring had broke to return the little hang down flap and I made the mistake (I guess) of reattaching the control panel without unplugging the Refrigerator. I heard a DING or some sort of audible tone, and after all together, the screen is dead, and the right side LIGHTS are out. The freezer light are ok, and I replaced the bulbs on right side but still dead. And the freezer and fridge are still keeping cold, I bought two thermometers to be able to tell. I have replaced the control panel and the ice maker chute with eBay purchases and still dead screen, and dead lights on fridge side. You think the bottom control board? In searching the web I see two different videos of taking off the control panel, and when they do , there are only 3 plugs going into it. Mine had 4? Maybe before we moved into Condo, it had some work done?? My image is the bottom. Maybe different model?? But will know more when I get back to the frig and take a reading at that J4 3 wire plug for voltage. Model # picture added. TY

Added a closeup picture of control board plastic back. It had a number on it of 8076419, not sure how it compares to the number 5304527931, I bought one using the number 8076419.... might have been a mistake

Hi @microman66

If you have a DMM (digital multimeter) check for 12V DC between the red and black wires on the UI board J4 connector (3 wire connector red/white/black user interface board shown in the image you posted).

This is the power supply for the UI board to function. It connects to the J9A connector on the main board. See p.2 of the service data sheetapplicable to FGHS2631PE4A, FGHS2631PF4A & FGHS2631PP4A models.

If there's no voltage all on the UI connector (or the main board connector) check the mainboard for any component damage.

Hopefully a start.

Hi @microman66

If the UI board is still dead, you need to prove if there's power i.e. 12V DC being supplied to it or not.

If there is power available at the J4 connector on the UI board then the mainboard is supplying the power OK but then there's a problem on the UI board.

May be easier to fix one problem at a time e.g. don't know if this is the case but if the problem with the lights is related to a UI board function then it's better to get the UI working first instead of wasting time chasing the light problem with a dead UI board.

Hi @microman66

What is the full model number of your refrigerator?

As can be seen in this link there are 16 models beginning with FGHS2631P___ and I only linked the data sheet applicable to the ones ending in A as shown in the model you selected in your question The others may use different boards

Hi @microman66

Bit slow on the uptake. I didn't see that you posted a picture of the model number of the refrigerator. ;-(

According to this supplier and this other supplier the Frigidaire part # for the UI board is 5304527931 (part ID #38C ice and water dispenser parts diagram)

The original board was part # 242058232 which has been superseded by the part number listed above

Usually the board number (part number) is printed on the board, either on a sticker or on the board itself if you wish to confirm which one you have. You will have to unplug it and remove it from its case to see it. Good thing that you have a picture of where the cables all connect to ;-)

Hi @microman66

Can you get the board out of the plastic case?

If you can check what model number is shown on the board.

Hi @microman66

Every supplier that I checked all state that the display control board is 5304527931.

242209710 may have been the original but as you say, it's now been superseded.

Either get the original where the image of it is the same as what you have now, or get the latest board. All the suppliers would sell you that one if you only specified the refrigerator model number.

Did you check that 12V DC was being supplied to the board from the main control board? I can't see where you said that it was.

If there's no power being supplied to the display control board then it won't work.

May be best to verify before ordering a replacement display control board.
