Background and Identification
The Nissan Altima is a midsize car produced by Nissan since 1992. The Altima is a continuation of the Nissan Bluebird line, which was introduced in 1955. The Nissan Altima falls between the Nissan Sentra and the Nissan Maxima in terms of size, power, and luxury. The first- through fourth-generation Nissan Altimas were produced only in the United States and were sold in North and South America, Australia, and the Middle East. In other markets, the Nissan Teana was sold as a related midsize sedan between the Maxima and Altima in size. The Teana became a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Altima in 2013.
The fifth-generation Nissan Altima was released in May 2012 for the 2013 model year. It was sold as a four-door sedan with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout based on the Nissan D platform. The Altima was sold with either a 1.6-liter, a 2.0-liter, or a 2.5-liter straight-four engine, or a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired to a continuously-variable transmission.
Nissan Altima vehicles include the Nissan emblem, which depicts the name “Nissan” in capital letters on a banner inside of a circle. The name “Altima” is often included in capital letters on the left-hand side of the rear end of Altima vehicles. The trim level is generally included on the right-hand side of the rear end of Altima cars.
