FreeStyle Freedom Lite Owner's Booklet
Background
The FreeStyle Freedom Lite is a traditional fingerstick blood glucose monitoring system manufactured by Abbott Diabetes Care. Originally launched and made available in the United States in April 2008, it was considered a companion model for the FreeStyle Lite meter as both used the same technology and test strips. However, the Freedom Lite was considered better due to its larger numeric display and more comfortable design.
The FreeStyle Freedom Lite is for people with diabetes to test at home, and for healthcare professionals. It's designed to monitor the effectiveness of a patient's diabetes control program without requiring coding. Its internal memory can store up to 400 test results, including the time and date, and also provides averages for up to one month. These tests and results are fast and accurate. It requires at least five seconds and only a 0.3 Microliter blood sample from either your fingertips, palms, upper arms, thighs, calves, or hand.
The FreeStyle Freedom Lite weighs roughly 1.4 to 1.6 ounces and measures 3.3 inches (L) x 2.0 inches (W) x 0.63 inches (H). It requires one 3-volt lithium coin cell battery and lasts up to 1000 tests. This makes it easy for on-the-go glucose monitoring.
However, unlike its previous models, the Freedom Lite did not have a port light or backlight, with the trade-off being a larger and comfortable design. While not all users were affected, FreeStyle Lite test strips were subject to a recall in November 2013. Some users reported a blank screen or “SET” error. These issues are usually caused by the test strip, battery, or meter.
